Ferran Torres Admits He Didn’t Want To Leave Valencia For Man City

Manchester City’s new acquisition Ferran Torres has admitted he did not want to leave his boyhood club Valencia.

Torres joined the Premier League side on a five-year contract which will keep him in Manchester until 2025.

The Spaniard came through the ranks at Valencia before making his senior debut in a 4-1 home victory against Real Zaragoza in the Copa del Rey in 2017.

He became an integral member of Los murcelagos’ side this season, scoring six and providing eight assists in 44 games in all competitions.

In an interview with Spanish news outlet Marca after securing a move to play under Pep Guardiola, Torres candidly revealed he did not want to leave Valencia and was forced out of the club.

“I started thinking about it last summer after the European Under-19 Championship. The club told me personally that they weren’t counting on me,” the 20-year-old said.

“They literally said that I was the fifth winger in the squad, that reinforcements were coming and other players from other positions were ahead of me.”

“It was a very hard blow for me, but what was worse was that they even put me on the market and offered me to teams in Spain.”

“I’m sure I can return to Valencia one day. I refuse to think otherwise.”

Torres played 97 times for his boyhood club, scoring nine goals and provided twelve assists.
